The cabochon part is a quartz crystal cluster with a relatively flat base, about 3" x 4". I glued it to a piece of generic "stiff stuff", then beaded around it, made bridges over sections of it, etc. For almost a year, it kinda sat like that (unfinished), because I had no idea what to do with it-- too big for a brooch or most necklaces (was considering a collar). I stitched that to a piece of artist canvas, then filled in the space (to fit the frame opening) with appliqued beads. The frame is wood, painted black with "Ceramicoat" (not a good idea, by the way, even if it does "clean up with water), then spayed with a satin glaze.
